I have an 05 Edge 3.0L and I'm looking for a way to get some faster 0-60 times. Right now the only mod I have is a superchips flashpaq. I plan to get the normal bolt ons like an intake, headers, exhaust, etc but I'm not sure if they will help very much. I was looking into changing the gears but I have 4.10s stock with a 28" aftermarket tire and I think I'm already pushing my limits with fuel mileage. I've read that lighter wheels, underdrive pulleys and engine mounts may help. Is there anything else that can bring the times down? I know the 3.0 isn't a very good motor but there has to be something that will make an impact without using NOS or forced induction, right?

IMO, there are 3 stages of engine mods for the 3.0.

Stage 1: ( Simple bolt-ons, fairly inexpensive, will improve throttle response, slight increases in power, and can improve mileage)

underdrive pulleys
a decent cat-back exhaust
electric fan
Air intake kit
*an sct X-cal tuner

Stage 2: (More indepth install requirements, increased cost, work best in conjunction with Stage 1 mods)

porting/polishing heads and intakes
roller rockers
headers
*an sct X-cal tuner

Stage 3 : (Most advanced, will see largest power gains, highest cost, )

Tom Morana products
Forced induction
*an sct X-cal tuner

*I realize that you already have a superchips. I'm recommending an SCT x-cal because I've heard from several 3.0 owners who have had both the superchips and the x-cal that the SCT has tons more capability. (if you don't want to spend the money on another tuner, you may be able to find someone to write custom tunes for your truck that will allow you to utilize the Superchips tuner. Either way you go, wait til you're done modding.) The tuner can be done at any stage, but making the tuner the last mod you do will allow the tunes to account for other mods, and therefore have a larger net affect on performance. It also keeps you from spending money on additional tunes if you mod things after purchasing the tuner.

Thats strictly engine mods. Reducing the weight of your truck, and changing the shift points if your truck's an auto would help (another advantage of the SCT x-cal). If you've got a stick, then consider a short throw shifter from Hurst. Traction is key as well, so decent tires, and a limited slip differential, or full locker will do wonders.

Also, I should add that I love my 3.0 with an intake, cat-back, underdrive pullies, and e-fan conversion. I'm going to love it even more when I get my Whipple, ported lower intake, and JBA headers put on.

Thanks for the list, I guess I'll just have to start adding stuff until I'm satisfied. Do you know what your 0-60 times are with the intake, exhaust, pulleys and fan?

Also, where did you find a Whipple? I would buy one tomorrow if I had the money.

I haven't been to the track, so I don't have any official times. I'd ball park it somewhere in the 7's to 60, but that's just a guess. I have a trac-loc, and super sticky 295 rear tires though.
I bought the Whipple used from a member on another forum. They pop up every once in awhile. If that's what you want, start saving, and keep your eyes peeled.

Alright man, thanks for the help. I can't wait to get started on this.

1. The Stock Air box is a cold air kit. The only change I'd make to the intake system prior to the throttle body is getting the ARS or like part to make a smooth intake house from the air box to the throttle body.
2. Also there is a mod to remove some of the plastic around the Mass Air sensor to decrease turbulance and allow a clean air flow. This mod is supposedly noticeable above 3000 rpm.
3. It looks as if you have a Ranger Edge extra cab so you already have an aluminum drive shaft.

just get a rolling start that always helped my times :thefinger: you called it a 3.slow id say ditch the 3.slow and put in a heavier 302slow. probly would cost the same as boring the 3.0 over and doing all the expencive mods or stage 2 and 3 mods like stated before. I know its alot of work but if you looking for power the 3.0 is the wrong place.

Yeah I have the Edge supercab. And this is probably a noob question but what does ARS stand for?

I thought about doing an engine swap but I'm still in college and really don't have the time or money to put into it, a good friend of mine has a 91 Ranger with a 5.0 and it is pretty wicked. I just want to make mine a bit more fun to drive while I have it so I'll probably just get all the normal bolt-ons and maybe a supercharger.
