Got an awesome deal on it used. 1 yr old. Low hours. Takes less room in the shed than any other 48" mower I could have bought.

Wife wanted chickens, I said no because the chicken house is not ready yet. So we compromised and she got four chickens.



Little kid likes his chickens, thinks they are funny as they run around.



Then we compromised more and she brought home 3 installments of 2 chickens to get us a nice round number of 10 chickens.

Late last week the little turds were starting to fly out of their tub, I caught one running around the house. So I bured steel against the north side of the chickenhouse and got the worst wall shored up. I still have three to go. Anyway they got the boot.



So far they seem content:



Attacked the garden with the floppy old single disk and the WD



I borrowed this springtooth to break up the soil so I can do some dirtwork to add a lean-to on my garage, I picked on the garden with it a little for fun with the '45





Fuel system on the WD is about to drive me nuts...



And yesterday I was seeding the water way in my field and had a gorgeous sunset.

When we finally get relocated... I would like to have a chicken coop. Nothing on the scale of where you're headed. It's all part of the plan to get our groceries much closer to home.

It's a slippery slope.

We both wanted ducks but they are very messy/smelly to get started in the house. Easier to just buy adults.

So far I have held off on real livestock because "I need a bigger tractor to move hay" and so far that ploy is working.

We had all of it growing up, I know two horses will power thru a $75 bale of hay in a week during winter. $50/head to get their hooves trimmed a couple times a year and they get sick if you look at them wrong. They give me hives, there is no fun for me to be had there.

So I chock the wheels on that crazy train with a $5-10k tractor.

She hasn't found the bale fork for the WD-45 stashed in the weeds yet...

Steering with the brakes it can move a smaller one, a modern bale weighs half as much as the tractor so I am not really being dishonest about it...

We had like 15 chickens and maybe 6 ducks before mink wiped us out. I turned half the chicken house into a shed for my lawn mower since then so think we are probably about good on chickens.

Keep the varmints out of them and they are fun. Ducks are worthless (eggs smell like a warm wet dog as you cook them) but hilarious, if you have a pond they will be on cloud 9.

Interesting, I've never noticed that. We get duck eggs from a friend and I prefer them to chicken eggs. They seem richer and less dry when hardboiled. We never seem to be in shortage of fresh eggs from friends and acquaintences. Seems like they end up with a bunch of chickens (and eggs) and quickly get sick of them. Since it's super popular right now to have chickens, everybody has them and the market for 'farm fresh eggs' is pretty saturated here, so selling them doesn't work out quite like they planned and they give them away to friends & family. I must say the chicken eggs are better than the ones we generally get from the store.
