Hi,

The belt on my truck has some serious squealing happening. I changed the water pump on the weekend and seems to be working fine. Now the clutch fan runs at start up and takes forever to disengage itself. I was running the A/C yesterday and I could hear the fan in the cab and the belt would squeal if I tried to accelerate. How can I tell if the clutch fan or idler pulley or tensioner pulley is the cause?

Thanks
Brian

If its the clutch fan u would b able to spin the fan by hand pretty easily, i just changed my pump last month and had to replace both the idler and tensioner pulley so could b that also...

First thing is to run the truck for a short while without the belt on to see if the noise is eliminated. If its not then you may be looking at a cam syncro issue. Next put the belt on and take the fan clutch + fan off and run. If that doesn't eliminate anything run the truck and use a stethoscope or a piece of hose next to each pulley and listen to where the sound gets louder.

Tensioners being out of alignment is a common 3.0 engine problem, so that's the first place I'd look.
