Im gona replace my water pump. How do u take off the Fan Clutch? I guess its a ccw thread? What r some tools, tips for doing this. How do u hold the water pump pully still?
Thanks

Leave the fan belt on, that helps.

There should be a label in front of the rad that tells you if it's a CCW or CW to remove, if it is gone then you will need to look it up by year and engine, they are not all the same.

There is a Ford tool set to hold and remove fan clutch.
Just flat steel open end wrenches.
The one needed is the one that holds the pulley, it is wide and slides down the edges of the 4 pulley bolts, so all 4 bolts are used for leverage to hold pulley while fan clutch nut is unscrewed.
Most people have a wrench that fits the fan clutch nut.

The Ford tool set runs about $20, often you can rent them for a few dollars, check the auto parts store where you will be buying the water pump.

You could also use a strap wrench on the pulley if there is room.

There are a few ways to get leverage to prevent pulley from turning but these can bend the pulley

I tried to do this in the past when I stripped down my old truck before sending it to the wrecker, and I could NOT for the life of me get that damn fan off, I ended up unbolting the whole water pump and fan together I think... lol

I did not have the ford tool. I tried using a strap wrench and just could not get it done.

Sometimes you can break it loose with a sharp whack to the wrench with a rubber mallet. I got my fan and clutch at the junk yard....the junk yard guy was nice enough to loan me their wrench and mallet to change it right there.

Pneumatic fan clutch wrench and an air hammer.
