Fan clutch nut???

Is the big fan clutch nut a reverse thread on the water pump? I can't remember

My two new rangers a 2000 4.0 2wd std cab
N a 94 4.0 4x4 man trans

There both getting head gaskets right now

I don't recall off hand, but if you know what direction the shaft driving the fan turns normally while running, you can bet that it is setup so that tightening the nut will be opposite the way the shaft turns. In other words the normal shaft rotation tightens the nut if you were to hold the nut still. And to loosen when holding the shaft still turn the nut in the direction the shaft normally turns.

I couldn't remember right off the top of my head but the manual says left hand threads.

It has right handed threads. If you have a wrench on the nut, so that the wrench is vertical and on "top" of the nut, push the wrench towards the passenger side of the truck.

4.0l OHV fan clutch nut has regular threads, lefty loosy, righty tighty

Right hand threads. As a general rule, a fan pulley that runs on the smooth side is right hand threads. A pulley that uses the ribbed side will be left hand threads.

Thanks for the help guys got them both back together, ones finished, just need to get a new radiator for the 2000

the fan shroud on my 89 b ii and my 98 ranger state which direction the fan clutch threads
are for future reference right on top, took me awhile to figure that one out. one of those
forehead slappers.
