failing smog again, Help evap

Ok, so I finally took off my bad and saw my gas tank. There were no obvious leaks. So I capped off the vent with a rubber nipple. I also put silicone around the rubber grommet that seals it. I also put silicone around the fuel pump assembley O ring. I went back and I still failed the gas tank test!!

Any ideas? I might sell this car if I cant get a smog.

I noticed there was rust on top fo the fuel pump assembley, but did didnt seem so bad to vent vapors. The filler neck tube is old, but no obvious cracks or anything to cause vent leaks

I actually clogged the vent on the tank,a nd I still failed!

I found the leak though. It was on the filler neck. Now I'm debating how to fix it. There is a crack on the hose right where it clamps on the tank.

I called the dealer to buy this special molded hose and its pricey. So I need to go to Napan tomrrow and see what I can do. The only problem is part of it is oval shaped and not circular, and there is a bend right there!

your going to have a hard time getting a filler neck from any after market company.

a filler hose for a race(stock car or drag car) should work, they are pretty cheap too.

any speed shops in your area?

DOH!! I just bought one off ebay for $91.00!!!

Oh well, Dealer wants $288.00-$378 depending on dealer. ROFL
I could go to the junkyad, but I would need to bring a buddy to help me pull off the bed, and most likley its almost on its way out.

A race shop with aftermakert hose would be cool, but I couldnt find a place with 2 bends int he hose, also its 2" at the gas cap and 2.5" at the tank.

This item seems like a pretty known item to break. I searched on ebay and the first page was all applications of Ford Rangers and Mazda pickups.

They passed this law in CA in 11/07, Im sure we'll be hearing more people with our cars not passing the gas tank test
