Failing oil pump??

Last night while running a quick errand I noticed my oil pressure needle started bouncing for about five minutes. All in the NORMAL range, it started at M as usual but as I watched it would slowly drop to N then suddenly bounce back up to M. This happened about three times before leveling out and staying at M. I kept an eye on it today and noticed the pressure was a little lower than usual but not bouncing. I changed the oil a couple thousand miles ago with Mobil 1 Synthetic so I'm wondering if old age has caught up with it. Any advice would be great since I've not encountered this before.

Oil pumps don't fail in that manner.. Suspect the sendor, gauge or the wireing inbetween.. All this after checking to make sure the oil level is up to snuff.

Ah thank you I will give those a look over soon. The truck still runs fine now but the oil pressure still floats up and down, though now it's not as drastic as before. I'm not too worried though since I haven't noticed any loss or change in the truck's performance.

Oil pressure issues on a 4.0 without horrible sounding noises is most likely an instrumentation issue OR a clogged pickup (which may not make noises...immediatly)
