factory dummy gauge question

I recently bought a 1996 ford ranger 4x4 with a 4.0L engine and Ive read through a ton a of threads about oil pressure, senders, gauges ect ect ect but im having a strange issue were when i start, run, and idle the gauge doest move, i understand its either on or off but heck it aint even in the middle is between low and the middle kinda stumped about that. Im planning on installing a electrical aftermarket oil pressure gauge but i would also like to know what is an ideal psi for rpm ranges any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check to see if it's plugged in.
Location is front of block, driverside, near the crank pulley. Not sure if it's hidden behind the brackets.

The sending unit could also be bad or a bad connector. Even the gage could go bad as well as the wiring may be broken. Lots of choices here.

BTW, I think 96 was the last year that you could do the resistor across the gage mod and install the correct sending unit to make your gage an actually functioning gage. You would not know the exact pressure but you would see it go up and down when at higher rpm or idling.

Thanks for the input, very much appreciated. I have actually come to the conclusion that im am putting in an aftermarket oil pressure gauge. I want to know what kind of pressure im getting.
