factory Block parts C80E vrs E08E

I'll tell you that there is so much mis-information going on here. First post OP says engine with "C-6", give anyone an idea that it couldn't have come from a Mustang that new? Limits it to a '80' LTD or an "F" series truck. OP posts pictures of the casting number and measurements of the bore and still disagreement on it happening. You think he photoshoped them? I explained that it had been the sharing of castin numbers has been done several times at Ford, same basic casting with varing bores, same other than that. If you have ever worked with casting patterns it is very common, just change the interior cores to change wall thickness. Same bore spacing, deck height and the external is just the same. Those C8OE connecting rods were used up to '90', good forged rods, don't know where them other ones came from, milder application maybe. They quit putting the partial VIN numbers on blocks a long time ago, even then it was for the specail ones, "K" codes, Shelbys, Mach I"s and such. Common cars didn't get them. Have any idea of the paperbook nightmare keeping track of them, hundred thousands a year? Ever work at an assembly line? Engine blocks got the oil level pick-up in '80' I believe. Ford changed the SBF castings to eliminate excess weight around that time.

Sure Mac, I didn't even want to start a mess with the C6. I noticed it right away, but it wasn't important for what I was trying to explain. Who knows if it really is?????
Where you are wrong is about the partial VINs . . all over the place in usage. It was a FED mandate. The early cars you speak of had the VIN because they were "special " engines , you are correct . . . the the K model etc. But, that was before the mandate and then they all were "supposed" to get them.

well here are 2 different transmissions I have sitting in the shop. one from a Pinto build, and the other was attached to the 302. my guess is one is C4 and other C6.

I get the picture about being off on what vehicle the red motor was out of and tossing a curve into the mix. I never claimed to be any expert on these things, hence why I was asking about them.

your turn, ... thanks for the help guys. I didn't count on the bickerings.

The reason I said that . . is because a SB C6 is extremely rare. They are not found just anywhere. So if that was bolted to the engine, congrats this time, now you have something :)

well pete you had to know this question was coming.....

what makes the SBF C6 rare?

the one I have is 5 1/8th inches across the top bolt holes, solid bellhousing and one heavy chunk of iron.

cheers

Well rare in relative terms I guess. Most SB engines got C4 transmissions. C6s were used mainly in BB applications. Throw in the fact that there was another transmission used, the FMX . . and C6 applications with SBs was scarce by percentages. So were the anomaly :)

Your first picture is of a C-6, has the notched pan and bellhousing intergrated to the main housing. Second is a C-4, square pan and a seperate bellhousing. Pete is right in that the C-6 is quite rare in a Mustang but very common in trucks, vans or the heavy full size cars. Already proven that motor you have came out of a truck or large Ford. That FMX he speaks of was long gone from the lineup for that motor. I'm sure not bickering, just adding some truth to the matter.
Dave

Mac, the FMX was produced until '79 I believe, so not out of the realm of possibilities. I was just listing them.

And at this point in the game things can be so mix and matched it is really hard to know what is "right" to what.

Like Twister's engine, out of something and went into a Mustang that should have had the 255 and now going into a BII, hard to figure the trans hanging off the back into the equation at this point as to what it came out of.
