Can anyone give me a fair market value for a New factory long block 2.8?

It seems no one has responded..

One reason may be that there really is no "Ford" factory long blocks available to my knowledge..Unless you were extremely fortunate for some reason...

It seems that many vendors DO offer a "re-man" long block. Of course the usual warranty warning will apply. You could have the motor professionally done locally perhaps if that's you wish..again buyer beware..

Anyway..the rule of thumb used to be...cost of parts and services and "double it"...for labor. That could vary depending upon what your motor needed of course..

I'm sure you could easily eat up $1500 all in..probably more..Some wouldn't touch it all not being familiar with the older motor..

The person I got my ranger from was fixing up a bronco2 for his grand daughter and bought what he said is a "New, not reman, ford factory 2.8L to put in it" but he said he just rebuilt the one that was in the b2 and the other is just sitting in his shop still in the original plastic wrap.

He wants to use it as payment towards a house he wants to buy off of me so I am trying to find out what dollar figure to credit to him if I choose to take it.

Well, it would probably retail for about $1500 to $2000 ish.

But given that there is no real retail market for it the pricing becomes more like that of old cars. What is it worth to you, the prospective buyer?

Look on E-Bay and see what a rebuilt one goes for and you could base your value on that.
I overhauled one and the parts are expensive compared to a 302 or other more common engine.
I bought a rebuilt one - real cheap - that a builder had sitting for years that a customer never picked up. I took it apart to see if it had good parts and it was excellent - the gaskets for that were very expensive.
Also consider the convenience of having him deliver it and the offset to your house. Personal property in exchange for partial payment of real property isn't unheard of but is not very common; so proceed with caution.
(To tell you the truth, I doubt if he will get anything near what he paid for the engine.)
Side note:
If I could swap a bigger engine (check the tech pages) in my state, I would rather than doing another rebuild. And I love my 2.8.
