So I've been looking for an F-150 to Have and I came across this F-150 it looks super clean and the guy wants 800$ due to not having a title... If he cant get a title for it, is there anyway I would be able to get a title? or what?
Id prefer that im the one getting the new title for it and not him that way he doesn't want more for the truck ha ha.

First thing I would do is get the VIN from him and run a check on it to make sure its not a stolen or BOLO VIN, then you can apply for a lost title at your local DMV, it'll take a few weeks (6-8 if I recall) but eventually you will get it...
SVT

I'm not exactly sure what BOLO means, so sorry if I am repeating what you mean SVT.

There was just a story on the news here about a couple who bought a vehicle which the seller gave them the original title to with the sale. The seller had actually requested a duplicate title (which supersedes the original in Utah) and got a loan on it from one of these Payday Loan Centers. So when the couple took everything in to the state to register it, the system showed the unpaid lien from the Payday Loan place and they couldn't register it.

I'd do like SVT said and do some investigation prior to purchasing it. If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck..... it just might be one.

in most states, if not all, a replacement title can only be sent to the registered owner(s). if you are a repair shop or an impound lot there may be a few dirty tricks at your disposal.

Get the VIN number and run a check at your local police station. It could have a rebuilt title and the guy does not want anybody to know?? Maybe he bought it as a parts vehicle only with no title. So many scams going on across America these days. Let us know what happens, Bro!!

There is a Title Company in Maine that charges $175 (or at least they did a few years ago) to get a new title. My brother has used the company twice for an 88 Yugo and his 1954 Ford F-100. It takes at least 2 weeks to get it. In Maine you don't have to have a title to get it licensed, just a bill of sale. So you submit a bill of sale, they license it in Maine, get a Maine title for it then mail you the title and plates that are good for a year. Then after that you just license it in your state using the Maine title. They do, however, run the VIN to make sure there are no liens and it's not stolen. If it's stolen they WILL notify the authorities.

My advise is to be really careful and do your homework. You may be better off leaving it alone. My neighbor has a pretty nice F150 he give 1000.00 bucks for but he didnt do his homework. He found out after he bought the truck that he couldnt get a title for it because it had a salvage title on it and it had been wrecked a second time and fixed. Here in Alabama they will only allow you to salvage a vehicle once. Do, do, do your homework.
