Okay, hear me out before passing judgement. I have an 88 regular cab ranger, 2.9 5spd 2wd. I may be getting an 86 or 87ish extended cab truck, but either way, the following swap will be happening in one or the other. I have an 85 F150 2wd truck that my dad and I put a 94 Mustang GT 5.0 in, but with an Edelbrock intake and Holley carb. Mildly ported heads, pretty much stock motor. That engine and AOD trans are going in a Ranger one way or the other! The question is:
1. Can any of the F150 front suspension be used to widen the front track and lift the truck?
2. If I decide to not lift but continue on the lowered route, could the F150 coils be used, cut to the right height, and tada! I have stiffer springs the correct height for the heavier engine plus better handling from less body roll?
3. How much wider is the 8.8 in the F150 than the Ranger 7.5?
I know, just buy lowering springs/ lift springs blah blah blah. I wish I could. Right now, I'm looking at the cost of the motor swap. I may just find an 8.8 axle the right width if I stay with the Ranger front end. I posted up before about swapping I beams, but I think the guys responding thought I was meaning 4wd stuff. Guess I should have posted in a 2wd only forum. Oh, wait a minute, I did! Oh well, any help is greatly appreciated!
