First off as most of you have probably picked up I have a 2002 F-150, 5.4 automatic.

I don't like driving it much when it is cold, like this morning when it was 3 degrees. I also don't like running out to start first thing in the morning it when it is only 3 degrees. I have wanted to get it since I first heard of it but since college up until recently I have always had a garage to park in so it wasn't a biggie. No garage so I am back to scraping ice and shivering my way to work, which only being three miles never lets my truck get close to warmed up.

Basically, who makes a good affordable remote start kit? I don't want some POS thing that will burn down my truck, but if it is priced like it was hand crafted by god I will probably keep up the routine I have now too. Dunno much about them, but splice free would be awesome.

If you have any Car Audio shops in town see what they are using as far as brand name goes and how much.Do a search and see what you can buy it for.
I looked at putting one on the Wifes jeep last year, ran a little over $200 installed (she said for $200 she would go out and start hers and mine ...lol)
If the truck has any kind of factory anti theft you have to buy extra stuff to bypass it also.

No car audio shops around here.

Supposed to be about $300 installed at the local dealer.

Truck has PATS (requires the chip in the key)

300 installed is cheap for a dealership price if that's using a Ford remote start.

You will need a PATS bypass module installed as well.

I've installed Compustar remote startes in both my 05 sport trac and my 91 ranger. They both work very well.

Now that I think about it, that is what my brother was quoted for his '97, without PATS.

Well I know we are well over 700 installed for a basic system in a newer truck.
