1997 2.3 auto tranny, it gets really hot in the cab with all the temp controls in the off position.
The A/C is in-op at the present time but the floor board gets so hot its uncomfortable to the feet.
Is it normal for these rangers to build up so much heat in the cab interior?

Yes, mine does on longer trips. All the heat from the engine gets blown on the firewall. Makes it very unpleasant.

Sent from the road while ignoring traffic

Never had this issue before on any of my street legal vehicles. Maybe get some insulation put on the outside firewall and under the floor boards? Like I did with all my old drag racers. Those cars go HOT!! Fire retardant material is the best.

Nah, mine do it too. The trans tunnel gets hot.

Our 2000 Chevy used to do it too. My wife wouldn't drive it in flip-flops during the summer because the pedals would burn her feet. Hotter it gets, the more likely you are to notice it.

Global warming... I tell ya, it'll destroy our vehicles, one transmission tunnel at a time.

Man...that is strange. I never had that happen before. I wonder why that is happening. All of my Rangers have been fine and my BII's were fine...2wd and 4x4's. I guess I have been lucky!!!

How much you notice it depends greatly on the shoes you wear.

I never notice it coming home from work in my boots. Today I was taking my brother in law home and I was just wearing a pair of shorts and my sandals and it was quite noticeable.

do you have insulation and carpet? vinyl flooring? or none at all?
just bedlined floors get HOT!

I've never noticed it in flip flops and no ac weird. Mine is the stock carpet with jute. Hmm I would start by insulating the firewall and maybe the underside of the cab. I've heard of lizard skin or something like that you can spray on to reduce heat transfer.

Lizard skin is awesome stuff

Open windows?

My truck doesn't get hot in summer and is warm in winter with the heater on...I do have a problem with smoke but that's from my cigarettes...and a bit from the engine...

You may want to check the cat though...at one point mine was glowing orange and generated a bit of heat...that was due to burning rich...and my wallet knew it...so if the engine is throwing codes or you find the cat is an orange tabby you might want to check the fuel consumption...

heat shields around your exhaust help also

It's been in the 90's here and I drive with the driver's window open a bit on the Ranger. Wearing sandals and shorts and I never get really hot. I am used to the Florida weather. But...my feet never get warm from the floorboard. I would feel that!!! I don't feel any unusual heat from below. I think you guys are on CRACK.....lol

Yup, you are the only person who has never experienced most of these symptoms and issues, but we are on crack.

Makes sense to me, anyone else?
