Extreme Heat in Cab

Never noticed this problem in my ranger at all. The floor in my BII got warm, but not hot probably from the A4LD. On the other hand, our POS 98 S10 was like a damn oven inside. The trans tunnel got pretty hot and it was nearly unbearable in the summer unless the AC was on.

I don't feel it unless my shift boot pops up because I'm too lazy to screw it in. Only happens when I shift to 5th for a second. But it does get a little warm wearing shorts. I tried to drive in sneakers the other day, backed out of the driveway and pulled right back in, went in the house and threw my steel-toe on... almost stalled backing out in sneakers too :p

I thought it was just my Ranger!! Glad to find out its just another Ranger quality :icon_thumby:

Yup, you are the only person who has never experienced most of these symptoms and issues, but we are on crack.

Makes sense to me, anyone else?

Makes sense to me too haha.

never experienced this with my ranger, at all... but in my mustang, if i flipped open the little ashtray compartment (which had no ashtray, just carpet on the transmission tunnel) it was always HOT in there...

(not my mustang) the little flippy thing next to the recess where the ebrake handle is supposed to be

Sorry for not relpying sooner but had to make it too a Teardrop rally in the Redwood and just returned.
As for the heat in the cab of the rangers, I do agree that a plugged cat or a cat on its last leg seems the most plauseable however i too am leaning toward the tranny being the main culprit for this heat.
Currently Im not throwing any code but during my last smog inspection it took some fanageling to get it to pass, I thought is could have been the cat then but it wasnt exhibiting any of the classic symptoms of a failed or failing cat.
All responses to the explanantion for this heat build up in cab is welcomed.

Thanks,
Greg

transmissions don't produce emissions, so it wouldn't cause you to fail or almost fail a smog test...

I saw a transmission produce emissions once. Guy brake toruqed an Expedition and the trans emissed out the over-flow right onto the cat which then proceeded to emiss smoke as it caught on fire.

i'm speechless

Guess I'm lucky about the transmission tunnel not getting hot on my Ranger. Sure, I do notice the transmission gets a little, but what do you expect when its 100*F outside. Also, my transmission is a manual with synthetic fluid. That may be the reason, plus the insulation under the carpet. I did notice on the newer Rangers 2004+ when looking under them, that they had a heat shield padding under the cab's transmission tunnel.

My passenger floorboard has always gotten hot from the exhaust.

I probably wasnt very clear on my previous reply, there was a issue with it getting past smog and the indicators were leading toward the cat, however it did pass and it didnt exhibit all the symptoms of a bad cat i can only assume the heat would come from the tranny.

ahh gotcha, you know, you can pass with a failing/failed cat right?

I've never experienced any heat in the floor of my truck either. As a matter of fact, my shifter never even gets warm (hurst). I'm sure the body lift pretty much totally prevents it now but even before hand it wasn't a problem. Now my V8 swapped Dakota, that sucker gets hot inside!
