Extra cab wind noise

It seems like extra cab vehicles have more hiway/wind noise than regular cab trucks. Does anybody else notice this or could it be my ext cab is getting a little loose.

Have noticed the same thing with mine. Have checked everywhere and can find nowhere that air would be coming in from and I have no leaks in the cab. Was thinking of pulling the panels and putting in some sound proofing.

Mine seems to be louder around the rear doors [ext cab]. It's not whistling just loud like a wind tunnel if that makes sense.

I ran out of gas the other day and was sitting there waiting for roadside assistance...it was bitterly cold with a high wind...I happened to put my hand down beside my driver seat and felt a cold draft...there was a strong wind coming right under the door...no frickin' wonder the cab is so cold!

So...check around the door seals, especially at the bottom of the door...and, believe it or not...the firewall~ Put a strong light in the cab under the dash and pop the hood and have a look at it from the outside (at night, of course)...I'd bet there are at least two or three pinpricks of light coming through and these can create whistle noises if small enough...and sources of cold drafts/heat/ and a/c cool loss...

A 4 banger is better for seeing this usually because there is less area of the firewall covered so easier to see...I've been meaning to cover over the various and assorted holes in mine for a long time but still haven't gotten around to doing so...but the doors are being changed out in the spring so hopefully the replacements will seal better.

Door hinges can sag and otherwise stop lining up properly so it is common for air leaks around them as well as the door seal gets less flexible and easier to crack or not form properly...using a silicone spray on them regularly helps prevent this.

Here is something that I found on my 97... (this is not just a supercab issue, but for all trucks) the window seals that go around the top and sides of the windows in the door will come down a bit when you roll the window down (maybe 1/8" if that) but when you roll the window back up (think drive through at the bank/ micky d's) the seal does not get pushed back up (power windows... another reason not to have them) So that 1/8" gap is now enough of a gap to cause wind noise that wasn't there before you rolled the window down!

But if you tuck the seals up into the door frame before rolling the window up, it isn't as bad.

+1 on the firewall. Mine whistles at the driver footwell firewall, where the cables run through the grommet and into the engine bay. I don't care enough to find a solution; it doesn't bother me too much.

I also don't have a headliner. My cab is very noisy, despite the sound insulation & Dynamat on the panels.

My 99 Ssupercab is very quiet around town and at highway speeds. I have vent visors on it as well. I bought it new in 99 and it still is as quite as new. I have manual windows so I don’t know if that has anything to do with the noise you guys are hearing. I can crank them up a bit tighter then power windows.

Switching to 2007+ mirrors was the best thing I ever did for road noise. They're incredibly quiet compared to the flag mirrors.
