I got a few q's on some extended beams.

Are extended beams also bent for lift? Or does the extending lift them enough? I don't really wanna lift my 2wd 6". Who makes some cheaper extended beams that are only extended about 4" or even less maybe? Of course I'll need radius arms too so I would like to get it all at once too.

Do I need to convert to coil-overs to run extended beams? Or does it retain stock coil buckets? If I do need to who makes a good engine cage for mounting that is still pretty cheap?

Thanks guys

iv heard threat motorsports makes some nice extended beams and they dont cost thatmuch sence u have 2 wd i would consider extending them myself

Yes, Dave at Threatmotorsports makes a very affordable set up.

you can have the beams set up to run ethier coil springs or coil overs.

for coil springs the beam is cut after the radius arm. you can still later upgrade to coil overs this way as well. The only con is that the radius arm os further in on the beam

for coil overs only the beam is cut before the radius arm. This moves the radius arm mount out with the width of the beam. And is a little more strong over all.

I bet if you talk to dave he will make you a set any width you want in reason.

here is a pic of one of Threats kits. This set up looks be done so one can run a coil bucket set up still.

give dave a cal or pm him on here. Dave@threat there is also some other pics floating around the board of his work.

Yea I was seriously considering Dave's stuff, heard nothing but good things and yea I saw some of his other work around and it looks top notch.

How about the first questions? Are extended beams bent for lift? How much lift should I run with extended beams? I was think extended 3-4" each side and about 4-5" of lift? How does that sound? Plus if I get them done for coil buckets I dont have a whole lot of beam extended after the radius arm mount as opposed to a 6" each side.

Yea I've been wonderin that too. I guess he still emails with the same address "Dave@Threatmotorsports.com" or whatever?

some "bend" the beams and some angle the ends for camber correction, some do both.

I would suggest talking to dave, about what he can do,and the pro and cons of everything. Its his kit so he would know better than me.The one suggestion I would make is to figure out what rear end your going to run. and match the beam width to that..ie do you want to run a full size 9 or 8.8, explorer rear etc.

I have no Ideal why Threats page has been down for so long.Might have something to do with bandwidth.Less over head equals a better price for the customer. But I really dont know.
the email that comes up under his page is dezrt4us@yahoo.com or you can contact him even threw the pm here, screen name is dave@threat

I'll probably use the stock rear-end for a while. But I dont wanna do just a bent beam lift and then later put on extended beams. It's gonna be a pretty mild build, no 4-link with a 9" or anything. If I could choose a rear-end it would be the Explorer 8.8 w/ the 4.10's and LS. Is that the same width as the Ranger 7.5 and 8.8?

explorer rear ends are 1.5 per side over a ranger I belive. I forget, but I do know they are alitle wider.

So I would keep the thoughts of the explorer rear end when making a plan on the front end.

just think the project out in whole when thinking about or buying parts, that way your not going GRRRRR I wish I would have.....but your on the right track:icon_thumby:

Yea, I dont wanna go extremely wide. I think 3" would be good, that way an explorer rear end is only a little less each side. Plus I see a lot of trucks set up with 4.5" or 6" with 6" glass and it looks funny but the smaller flared glass looks funny too cause its too narrow. I dont want the fenders to flare and over hang the tires and I dont want my tires to stick out of the glass either, need something mild and still skinny enough to creep onto ATV trails once in a while.

haha i feel ya man its hard to know EXACTLY what to get. but if your tires hang out from your glass an inch or 2 it will be fine since when your suspension goes up the top of your tire goes in. so i would go with an extension about the same as your flare on your fenders.

http://giantmotorsports.com has good parts. you might want to check them out, if the other guy doesnt come through.

Yea, Giant is good stuff, a little too good for me. I don't really have a few G's to spend on equal length or 4 links. Unless they do just make regular extended beams? I never saw anything like that on their site though, seems like its geared more for racing and big budgets.

I don't even have a plan for the rear suspension yet, might just put some bilstiens or FOA's and make a hoop out of the bed and a longer shackle to lift and get more travel.

no the front 4x4 beams off a explorer will not make a ranger wider.....would have been nice lol.

the 2wd beams off a explorder will not work on a ranger, diffrent bends and such
