I have no use for the fold down seats in my 1992 ranger. What are some things y'all have seen done in the back area besides speakers cause I know I can do that

I've seen quite a few ideas on here but the one I liked best and would love to have in my truck is a bolted down tool storage locker. The jump seats are (were) just added weight on my 88 so I tossed them long ago. I currently have just a plastic tool box behind the passenger seat and I stow my winter wear behind the driver seat (ski pants, water resistant outer shell and boots).

Someone posted up some designs for boxes and (I think) was offering them for sale...but I don't remember who it was or how it worked out. They wouldn't be hard to make if you have even basic skills though. I like my seats to recline fully when needed so I wouldn't want anything too tall but easily accessible.

MY 88 has a bit of a bulge in the rear wall (for the body mounts mostly) that needs to be addressed and I thought of leaving the space there for odds and ends or even a short drawer...

Only problem I can see with a fixed (bolted down) unit is if you ever need to get at the body mounts they should be left open as much as possible. Unless you remove the bed to install bolts through the inside unit there would be a possible problem...never looked under that area to check to see if there was a cross member or other metal to work around but I might do that when the body comes off...soon.

I was able to put my skinny butted son on one of those jump seats the other day; his sitting on it lasted all of about 15 minutes before he begged to get out of the truck and walk the remaining trip! His mother was occupying the passenger seat.

I honestly don't get what those jump seats were desined for, as any kid that could sit on one is going to be too small, and would require a child seat, which would not work with those jump seats anyhow.

Really suprised the aftermarket did not design a lockable storage unit that would utilize the jump seat bolt hold downs. I'd think they'd sell with those who have the extended cab. My wife and I like the space behind the seats for shopping and such.

my kids and even myself been riding on them for over 20 years.

generally i run the seat back folded down with fluids in one gunwhale and recovery gear etc in the other...at least till the bottoms rotted out, with tolls under the seats.

i prefer to kick the wall out 6-8 inches and put a small forward facing bench in though.

the seats have alwyas been handy and working around them has been adequate to this point for me. so any mod to allow that is ideal imo.
