My Co Worker Has a 1998 Ranger, n Also a 1998 V8 Exploder...
His Ranger 3.0 is Acting up... He Wants to know if Everything
Can Just Swap over Since Explorer is a RBV...

Will the Oil Pan Clear the Frame...
Will the Trans Bolt up to the Cross-Member??
Will the Wires Clip in???

Also I (we) know that the Exploders are AWD,
Can that T. Case be Swaped to a normal T.Case??
What T. Case would bolt Right up to the Trans and
D.Shafts???

Thanx

I have a customer that has a 2001 Ranger Supercab 3.0, 5spd, 4X2, bought a light rolled 2000 Explorer 4X4 w/5.0, auto and had it installed in 1 days time, but he does have a shop w/welder & torches.

He had to notch his front crossmember to clear the oil pan to keep the trans crossmember in original location & use his original driveshaft. :icon_welder:

With 4X4 trans, you will have to change the tail shaft housing.

He used 4" x 1 3/4" c-channel to make his motor mount towers & notched em so the motor slides forward for removal, then :icon_welder: them in place.

He also moved the R&P mount down to clear the oil pan, it's just tacked in place, so he moved it down to clear, & retacked it.:icon_welder:

He used the explorer radiator, bolted right up.

He used the Explorer exhaust with the exception of the 2 rear cats, as they hit the crossmember.

He used the whole harness from the Explorer & GEM module.

SORRY, no pics. I've been there the last couple of days on deliveries & checked it out best I could.

I'm thinkin bout hittin him up for the 8.8 posi w/disc brakes w/leafs & frame brackets............as I've been thinkin bout usin Explorer leaf spring mounts to get more tire clearance on my 94.:icon_surprised:

I did a 98 mountie v8 to a 98 ranger 3.0 and there were very few issues other then the pats system you will have to deal with that. I had to take the ac condenser out for clearance issues you may be able to work around it though, You should have everything you will need in the donor, go for it they are sweet drives when you are done and I am actually getting better fuel mpgs then I was with the 3.0, any specific questions just ask,,,Neil
