Hey people, I have a 97 ford explorer v8 awd auto that I want to put in a 1993 ranger, question how hard is it to wire the engine, I have done 4 carb v8 swaps but the wiring on fuel injected v8 swap scares me a little. lol.

The wiring is easy. Only need about a half dozen to get the '96/97 ECU’s to light things up.

Wiring is not that hard. You have about 5 wires that must be hooked up to run the engine. A few more for gauges, and 5 additional for diagnostic port (OBD2)...

Specifics, people, specifics! I don't know enough to know which wires I need to do the swap.
I find this same lack of specifics in most answers to these type of questions. Please help in a more tangible way than saying "it's easy". Specifically which wires to what sensors and any other wiring that needs describing would be great.
Thanks,

Richard

OK, best of my knowledge on the Explorer 42 pin engine to body harness connector:

Pin 8 needs continuous hot
Pins 5, 36 need switched power
Pins 13, 34, 42 need to be grounded

Toss in pins 24 and 31 for the NSS.

1996/97

Pins 9 & 15 also must be connected. Pin 5 needs to be connected to the output side of the fuel pump relay, not to power...

So the PCM not only needs to "see" that the fuel pump relay is "on" but also needs to "see" both sides of the fuel pump relay?

I knew that the PCM needed the relay on signal, didn't know it had to control that signal. That's why I thought switched power would suffice for the fuel pump relay signal. Learn something every day!

Pin 5 tells the ecu that the relay is functioning. If the ecu doesn't receive this positive signal, it shuts down. Pin 15 is a ground signal to operate the fuel pump relay coil, not receive signal...
