reading about the axels in my truck i found that they are the 8.8 with 31 spline, 06 fx4 level 2, and i read a disc brake upgrade about a swap from an explorer with an 8.8 31 spline to the rangers 8.8 28 spline, but needing modifications. So the question im asking is if the explorer and fx4 31 spline 8.8 have the same bolt up for the rear discs and if they can be swaped without modifing them.

yea you need everything from the backing plate out from the explorer

^^x2.

Ford sells/or used to sell a rear disc conversion for the Ranger....it only fit the 31spline and what you got, is all the Explorer stuff from the brake plate out.

OR....Currie makes a bracket that you can use SN95 brakes(cobras too) on your 31spline. I soon should have my brackets done and advertised. I find Stang brakes are easier to work on, easier to hook the parking brake up, and all around a better setup compared to an Explorer. Expo and Ranger cables have different ends on 'em...so the rear cables need swapped out and that can be a whore. With stang brakes, that's not needed. Plus, stangs don't have the wrap around backing plate like on expos. Which is nice for the offroad guys....no stuck rocks between the cover and the rotor.

The Explorers being just about "common as dirt" I'd use the explorer stuff.

And yeah, on a 31-spline Ranger axle it bolts right on.

yep, I have cobras on my truck and if I had a 31sp axle i would have gne explorer as it is cheaper to get parts to do that. but with a 7.5 it was easier to use mustang parts.
