Unusual question I suppose since i couldn't find anything through search but, Is there a wider brake pad for the rear of the 8.8? So that it covers more of the rotor? i have an unsightly ring of rust on the rotor because the pad is only an inch or so wide. might just be me but its annoying lol

Without going with a custom brake caliper, your pretty much stuck with what you have...

Is it the inside or the outside of the rotor diameter that has the ring?

The inner diameter, near the hat will do that. It is a common problem for the outboard side to rust up from exposure. Basically requires a new rotor.

yes there are 2 sizes of pads that will fit on an 8.8 axle I can't remember what the differemce was. I know what you are talking about, the friction isn't very wide and doesn't use much of the rotor. There is another pad that will fit the caliper and bracket but I forget what it's from. I've run into it a few times when I did brake jobs.

F-150. The F-150 had a rear disc 8.8. The 9.75 pads probably fit as well since it uses the same style bracket and they don't ask which axle it has for brake pads.

Yea its the inside near the hat. It just bugs me. I like seeing the rear discs through my wheels, except for that ring Lol. I guess beggars can't be choosers tho

You say the F-150 maybe? Same year 95? Or newer? I wish the would give the pad specs somewhere lol

They must be rare. I haven't heard of them or seen them in the junkyards. I thought all disc F150's were 9.75?

All 5 lug 5.4 trucks got the 9.75 rear axle. Probably not real common in drum brake trim. The 5.4 came out late in '97 and they went to discs midyear in '99.

The 4.2 and 4.6 trucks got the 31 spline 8.8... and also went to discs in mid '99.

Then there was a 10.25 in the 97-01 F-250LD and 02+ F-150 7700, I think they followed suit with the others too. They are kinda rare.

The inner ring you just kinda have to deal with. Pretty much all disc brakes are designed to have some space there so that you don't have the pad hitting the hat. If it is really bugging you that badly put some high-temp paint on the next ones before installing them.

They are kinda rare, but I see one every now and again. I was looking at a fairly new (2010 to 2011) 4.6 F-150 for rear axle chatter a while ago. I knew there was a TSB about a bad run of LSD clutches for the 9.75 and was kinda shocked when it didn't come up for that VIN. I double checked and it had an 8.8. That was a real PITA because we don't actually have the tools to do the non-S-spring 8.8 LSD clutches.

The 8.8 disc units, were they metric or SAE lug pattern?
