Ok so I am wanting to swap out my Dana 28 to a 35 but the problem I have is less than 200 miles ago I had 456 gears put in the front and rear can I swap the guts out ore will I have to have the front and rear set up again I would also like to swap in the disk brake rear because mine has the drum set up thanks for any help

your question didn't make a whole lot of sense... but your 4.56 gears from your d28 will NOT fit your d35... depending on what vehicle you have, i don't know because you don't have it posted anywhere, you should be able to install disk brakes on the rear of your truck...

The truck is a 1987 ranger but I am looking into swaping the lift and axels into a explorer

you can swap the axles in (with some modification) but the gears and "guts" will not swap over.....you can try and sell the gears to someone (or the entire axle, which is what i would try to do)

first off, do NOT put the ford 7.5 or the d28 behind the explorer 302 if you want them to last at all, just use whats in the explorer and get it set up again, you can probably sell the 7.5 from the ranger but i doubt anyone will want to buy gears for a d28, having said that if you do want to and can get the entire axle housing to fit into the explorer then obviously the guts will as well

if you get a hybrid dana 35 then yes the d28 gears will go in it but i think the hybrids only came in 3.0 autos and maybe some 4 bangers?

I'd just bite the bullet and start over. The D28 and 7.5" axles are much too small to survive under the weight of an Explorer (plus, they're also narrower).

Like said, you should be able to recoup some of your $$$ by selling your old stuff.

To put in a back axle with disc brakes, into a car that has drums in the back, requires installing a new master cylinder for the brakes. Just pull one from a rear-disc'd explorer. (95+)

that won't work either because the hybred pinion is unique to the hybred.
(longer shank)

I have the stock MC in mine with a '99 Ex (disc) rear axle. No problem with it at all.
I think only certain years require that if any (possibly earlier ones not having RABS, so I've heard).
