Experience w/ Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch?

I was watching a show on Speed Channel, and they showed a Spec clutch. I had never heard of them, but they make a variety of clutches for the Ranger 3.0 and 4.0. I am thinking I would have tried one of these rather than the centerforce, so if it ever goes, I will be trying a Spec out. Hopefully a couple hundred K miles down the road!

I've been busy putting out fires on other vehicles and stuff, and STILL have not finished my trailer to try the load test. I will get to it, though.

The Centerforce, meanwhile, feels and works great!

From my readings about 2 years ago when I needed a clutch: For off road: Spec > Centerforce.

Centerforce tends to not like to be slipped. And from what I read, the CF DF is kinda harsh off the pavement. Some slipping is essencial for wheeling. And the Spec Stage II I have in my truck does VERY VERY well in off road drivability and on-road super grabby shifts. I try and clutch dump when accelerating hard in friends similarly equipped 5spd trucks, and cannot give the 'neck breaking snap' that this Spec can provide. I've had the Spec Stage II in my '01 4.0 4x4 for the last approx 50,000miles. When I needed to swap trannys 20k after the Spec install...the spec looked brand new.

I love my spec because of the grabbyness it has...and it's ability to slip when i need it to. Plus...fast shifts, the clutch just sticks like glue when dumping the clutch and accelerating. i effin love it. spec2 ftw!

OBX2003,

I hope your clutch lasts 200K miles. It may, but I'll bet you have to replace the throwout bearing and pilot bearing way before then. When I replaced my clutch at 90K, the clutch and flywheel looked very good. The throwouot bearing and pilot bearing were trashed.

Hmmm....that could be a long term bet! At least I hope. When I was a kid in my Mustang, I'd sit at the light with it in gear, constantly revving it up. I probably ended up pulling everything 10K miles after a clutch change just to put in a new stinkin' throwout bearing. That was pretty sickening. After once or twice of that, I learned better habits.
I always bump it out of gear w/o pushing the clutch as I head to a stop at a red light, and leave it in neutral until I have to go. As far as the pilot bearing goes, I have had pretty good luck with them most of the time.
Of course, it's always a crap shoot with auto parts anyway.

I have over 20K on my Centerforce Dualfriction in my truck...works better than the clutch that was in it prior to me replacing it (previous owner's install). For most cases I recommend Luk clutches. BTW, I did notice the "Luk" stamp on the pressure plate of the DF before installing it.

Well that's a bet I hope I loose, But I got a feeling. I also perform the same actions when I'm not underway. In fact my truck is a 2005 and I have over 125K miles on my truck. 95% of my miles are highway. I travel about 500 miles a week going back and forth to work, so my truck does not sit in traffic. As a matter of fact, our town only has one stop light. This isn't my first Centerforce DF. The one on my 240Z has 75K on it and I've beat the hell out of it on road tracks and drag strips (a friend of mine owns an NHRA sanctioned drag strip).

Splash,

You should see the wimpy clutch disk that came with the kit I bought from Rockauto.com! Oh, yeah, I can post a pic once I figure it out.
