I removed the manifolds on my truck and only broke one bolt (easy to drill out though) and need new bolts.

I figure about 90-95mm is the length I'll need (8mmx1.25). Problem is I cant find flange bolts that long.

Am I gong to have to use regular hex bolts w/ washers for the long ones insead of flange bolts? I figure at some point someone had replaced the bolts as they were a regular hex blot with a washer and not a flange bolt.

Have tried at fastenall??

I have checked Fastenal's website & catalog and another place (online, forget who) and what I found are bolts 70-80mm and shorter.

Im not really sure what to do at the moment, I know I dont want to have custom bolts made.

Just use Hex bolts with lock washers

The bolts broke for a reason, they are too long and when subjected to consistent hot and cold cycles, the bolt will weaken, and break next time you need to remove it, should you have to...I'd switch over to studs, while you have it apart...You can get a standard length, which is cheaper, and cut it to the length you need.

+1 on the studs - then you'll have two things that can unscrew in case one is frozen.

I agree. Thats a great idea.

What I would do is use thread lock/locktite on the threads going into the head (so they dont twist and snap/back out) and use antiseize on the opposite end, or you can use antiseize on both ends, though it may be a PITA if it comes out instead of the nut...

Guys I always use an air hammer to take out manifold bolts. I turn it down low and beat the bolts a while. The continued beating seems to loosen them up real good. I did a 99 3.0 a couple of weeks ago and they all came out in good shape. I did put new ones back in though. Ten year old manifold bolts with 160K on them need throwing away.

I went ahead and ordered some hex bolts. I am thinking I'll get by with the stock set-up for now and upgrade to aftemarket manifolds w/ studs later on as soon as get a chance.

Thanks

thats what i'm gonna do when i reassemble my 2.9L. i broke 5 on one side and 1 on the other and thats after i soaked them for a week in penetrating oil. i dont plan on EVER removing them again, but just in case i need to. you can get by with regular hex bolts, i pulled one out that looked like it came from home depot, i hope it didnt F up the threads.
