i have a 4.0L ranger automatic and i want something that is really loud and improves my horsepower and gas mileage, but i am also on a budget so i cant spend that much what would you recommend,

magnaflow xl. i have a couple laying around. 1 is new. pm me

i think alot of people here use flowmaster and i have heard some that sound pretty good. i havent heard a magnaflow on a 4.0 though so im not too sure on those.

leave it stock. Your not going to get power, or mileage with an exhaust.

:icon_thumby:

at least not with a muffler..you won't get anything noticable by doing an exhaust or intake setup besides more "response" from the loud pedal...i would equal this to waking up the engine haha..If there is nothing wrong with the muffler on your truck, leave it till she falls off..more power would be forced induction/port & polish + tune etc etc etc. The best mileage you will get is by going easy on the thing..or no driving at all :icon_twisted:

but i like Flowmaster

on the contrary letting the engine breathe better does help, i have a noticeable dif on et times. my 0-109 time stock was 33 seconds, my 0-109 after custom intake, high flow cat and super 44 was 21 seconds. my mileage went from 17-19 to 21-23 as well when i wasnt romping on it. this is on a 93 ranger 3.0 4wd auto.

I found zero difference with changing the muffler on my 05 Explorer other than noise. I added a better filter and a magnaflow and saw zero improvement in milage from the muffler. It actually went down a little bit, for some reason I couldn't get into converter lock up at lower speeds. Put the stock muffler on and locks up like it should while crusing. Most bolt ons are not going to work miracles, as far as sound and warranty I prefer magnaflow for mufflers.

Probably the loudest mufflers you can get for your truck are the Dynomax race series (ultra flow), I have a si/so race bullet on my b23 and it is very loud, almost like running a straight pipe. Magnaflows are nice if you like smooth, deep exhaust notes. They are silent at freeway speeds, too, which is nice (dependent on where your exhaust exits)
