I just recently installed another head on my truck and have everything put back together and it will not start.. I have all of the wiring hooked up properly and I've checked the coil pack and plug wires about 6 times over to reconfirm the proper firing order. When I go to start it, it sounds at times like it wants to kick and as when you open the throttle a little it eventually makings a "klump" sound. Any suggestions ? I don't know about timing or if could be adjusted ? The engine has been turned over prior to starting during the rocker arm assembly but I have no clue... :icon_confused:

When in doubt check

1)Compression
2)Fuel
3)Spark

Let's hope you have compression if you just fixed the head, but do check for the other two, Fuel and Spark. I'm sure you would know how to check for these if you can take on a cylinder head project. :icon_thumby:

::Scratches Head::

Ran a compression test and it works fine. We checked the spark plugs and can see the spark. It sounds like it wants to start but is backfiring and sounds like the timing is off but I don't think you can even set timing and the chain wasn't removed. The fuel pressure valve stem (looks like a valve stem on your tire) squirts out fuel and you can smell some fuel on the plugs when you pull out the spark plug. My concern now is maybe it isn't receiving enough fuel or the injectors are clogged perhaps ?? The crank sensor plug is installed and all of the wiring is properly hooked up.

We've also re torqued the rockers @ 16 Ft Lbs (with the lifters fully down) Really don't know whats going on at this point. Any help would be a blessing.. haha :bawling:

Thanks in advance.

did you check all the plugs for spark

just swapped some plug wires around and now it runs.. haha weird.. go figure.. I know we had the right firing order initially.. looked at someone elses ranger and in the book and online... plug wires for cylinder 1 and 3 were swapped and i forget which ones on the drivers side but it purrs like a kitten and idles very smooth..

thats goo , what i was gonna say was , i had the front wire in the plug for the coil pulled back , and mine wouldnt start , had spark on the other cylinders , just not 1 and 5
