Ive been delivering pizza for the last 2 1/2 months, pretty good job, $5 an Hr, $1 per delivery and what ever tips I make, and working 20 hrs I was bringing home a $200 a week under the table getting cash everynight.

Pretty sweet deal right? Well I go to work thursday, go around to the back door like I always do, go to open it and its Locked. I go around to the front and theres a sign that says "Were closed, Yea I said it were CLOSED!!!" I look inside the window and the oven is gone and and some of the tables are fliped over. Im thing WTF??? I call one of the other guys I work with and he says the boss just decided shut down on tuesday.

Real nice huh? no phone call, no notice, Nothing.

Hopefully it will work out, they just opened another wal mart in my town so I'm gonna go see if they need someone to change oil, and if that dosnt work out I'll figure out somthing.

This is my fourth summer coming up at McDonald's. I didn't lose my job or anything (I'd like it if it closed down), but I know the feeling of wanting a job that pays well and is also half enjoyable. I almost feel guilty leaving at night knowing I raised probably over a hundred customers cholesterol and maybe even shortened their life span by a fraction...

Hopefully I can become a life guard one day soon.

That is pretty messed up that they didn't tell you they were closing down. For all they know, you had financial commitments that would put you in quite a bind if the pay suddenly dried up.

ah, man, BTW this wasn't the paycheck week? I know the big chains pay every two weeks, hopefully you can get your pay.

That sucks!

I've been laid off since late October... we finally just got some work to do again last week, but we have a serious problem... The boss can't do the work anymore and I'm the only other crew member right now. We had an experienced finisher quit last spring, hired a good laborer who got another job right around the time we ran out of work, and my bro is only able to work during the summer cuz he's off at college the rest of the time.

Oh, yea, we do concrete construction... so that means that it's pretty hard to do the work when there's only one guy on the crew able to do much of anything (me in this case since the boss can't do the work anymore physically). We've tried to get more employees, but can't find anyone willing and able to do the work. Plus it doesn't help that the housing market here dried up so there's not really any work to do anyway. Doesn't matter if you're hourly wage is $15, if there's no work to be done, you get nothing per week. I've been looking for a job since late November and haven't been able to find anything. Lots of people are putting out ads for employees but it doesn't seem like anyone is actually hiring cuz I've applied for some other construction jobs and shouldn't have had a problem getting hired, but I haven't even been interviewed!
