This is truly freaking awesome. Thank you!!!

I got lost looking... I wouldn't mind having a couple of these first gen trucks.

If I ever buy another... I'm getting it from California Nevada Texas... someplace other then the North East

Ever since i found that craigslist has a filter like autotrader ive been spending hours on there looking stuf from non salty regions. Out west is awesome....not just for rangers but everything. If i can go out there and buy something good for even 10k ill consider it a win over having to give into buying modern.

I don’t even want to look. I’m still paying for the last time I did at a tune of $43,000 over five years.

I make these lists of vehicles, and when I find new matches, they get added. I check Rangers daily as I'm looking to replace mine: I drove a '98 3.0 rwd to 230k, and now I'm looking for an FX4.
Hope this helps somebody find what they're looking for; if this kind of post isn't allowed, forget I was here.

You're breakdown of generations is entirely wrong:

If you're going to classify Rangers by generation, please do it correctly.

Huh. I was going off the Wikipedia article, which only specifies three generations from 1983-2011: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Ranger_(Americas)

The wikipedia article is wrong. 83-88 is first gen, 89-92 is second gen but admittedly, a lot of things overlap between years, and it gets murky. For example 93-94 interior is more or less the same as 89-92 but 93-94 falls into 3rd gen territory...etc

Wikipedia is wrong. The link I posted explains the differences. The Ford Ranger community has always classified the generations based on body style, just like is done with the F-150.

Good to know, I'll modify the thread titles. Should somebody edit the Wikipedia article?

I always thought....

83-88 1st gen
89-92 2ndgen
93-97 3rd gen
98-01 4th gen
01-11 5th gen
19+ 6th gen.

You can say that the front end/interior changes from 83-97 wernt enough to be different generations....but the F series kept the same basic bones from 80-96 and 80-86/87-91/92-96 are considered 3 different gens.

I appreciate the insight. I drove a (4G?) Ranger for five years but never knew this about them.

Ultimately, I'd rather follow what the enthusiasts say, so five generations it is.

You can really break them down... for example '85 could be a generation unique to itself with relatively large changes to the interior, auto/overdrive trans like later years but with the engines carried over from previous years.

Just out of curiosity, how are you collecting your listings? Is this all done manually or do you have some way to aggregate Marketplace search results?
