One of these popped up on Craiglist... according to the seller, this was a factory option...

thoughts on this? I wanna take a look at it, but I don't think its gonna be worth the 2500 he wants for it.

I took a 4.0/5-speed out of a '91 4dr explorer for my b-2

I've never seen an '02, but what I'd be interesting in seeing is 4.6 powered '02 with a 5sp...

I think the first year of the new body style offered a 4.0L a 5 speed stick via Ranger sourced. But it was the only year. Rare? yes. But it shouldn't be a parts problem because it's still the same old 4.0L DOHC and M5OD-R1 we're all used to.

Just a word of caution... In '02 Ford made a short run (1000 or so) of 5 spd explorers with a dual mass flywheel and a 26 spline clutch. If this is one of them, clutch parts are very hard to find and expensive.

There is no such thing as a DOHC4.0

SOHC yes, you count the camshafts on each heads, not both cams on the engine (one per head)

Yes, the '02 explorer Base engine was the 4.0SOHC

I saw one on Ebay a few years ago, where the big cubby hole is normally in the console is where they put the shifter.

'02 only, kinda wonder why they even bothered.

A guy at work had one, 2 door sport manual 5-speed but it was 2wd

The Sports were more common to have them.

When I said '02 only I meant for only the newer 02+ bodystyle.

I had one it was a '93. Put over 100k on it. Dealer was trying to get rid of it bought it in Sept. Much better deal than an auto at the time.

I know how to count cams :icon_twisted: though I honestly thought there was a DOHC version, also thought that was the standard V6 option in the mustangs for several years (DOHC) and that they upped the engine fanciness/power for the new body style Explorer.

No, the '02-up explorer got the familiar SOHC 4.0, and the "Up engine" was a 4.6liter V8
Unless you want to talk about the Lincoln Aviator which got a DOHC 4.6liter V8 (Lincoln Mk8 Engine)

I hear that and really wish there was a DOHC 4.0V6
I would just have to have one, particularly if it was a GDI engine

I doubt they would put it in a "Ranger" or similar class vehicle...

Personally I'd love to see ford make a V12 based on either the 4.0SOHC or the 3.5liter Eco-boost engine

Stuff one of those in a new F-150 and that would be "Lightning"
