I need a queen mattress and box spring for my guest room. I really don't want to spend over $800 for a mattress that's only going to get used a couple of times a year.

I was wondering if anyone has had luck buying one online. I see commercials for ones that arrive in a box.

My buddy got a new mattress for his camper online (California Queen?). It's memory foam and came compressed/vacuum sealed in a box. Really hilarious how small they crush these things. Once you pop the bag it starts growing, takes about 24 hours to fully expand. But I gotta say, it's a pretty comfortable mattress. I slept on it a couple times. I have no idea how long it'll last but if no one is sleeping on it every day I doubt it matters. He only paid about 600 if I recall.

Yup another great thing about memory foam, no box spring needed. But you do need a special frame for it. A basic steel frame is only like 50-75 bucks, usually you can find them included with the mattress for free though.

Yeah, I bought a memory foam mattress online a couple years ago - a long twin for around $150. As described above, it came in a fairly small box and took a day to fully expand. I did a ton of research since I knew I was making a commitment - no way I could smoosh that thing back into the little box to return it! Its harder than I expected from the reviews (I like a soft mattress), and I will replace it in the next year to find one a bit softer but it would be perfectly acceptable for a guest room setup.

I use them in the tour buses we build at work. We've never had any complaints and ours are usually only 4 inches thick custom mattresses. I cant imagine a regular thickness one wouldn't be a comfortable sleep.

@Jim Oaks its the guest room bed... How long would you really like your guests to stay? LOL

We bought both a twin and queen for our extra rooms. Also, bought the metal box base for the twin. Super simple to assemble and they beds take time to "acclimate". Actually slept on the queen a couple nights while redoing master suite. (sounds fancy huh) Just had new carpet installed. Anyway, the queen was very comfortable and slept like a baby.

a friend of mine bought one years ago when they were new to market and super super cheap. He likes it.

I can’t stand memory foam mattresses. They hold to much heat and I can’t sleep worth a damn... other than that, they’re comfortable.

I cannot sleep hot either. I have a beauty rest black ice memory foam I got a couple years ago, it's the coldest mattress I've ever slept on. It feels like it actually sucks heat out of your body. Best mattress I've ever owned. To be fair though, its the first mattress I've ever actually been an adult about and bought at a store instead of pulling out of a dumpster or off the curb. My previous mattress looked like it had been a part of several murders and at least one home birth...

Ah yeah good point.

If your a sweaty sleeper your gonna wake up in a literal pool of sweat.. which is unfortunate.. because damn are they comfortable.

Memory foam tech has gotten alot better. Like i said mine is super cool. But it also wasn't cheap. You can also always throw one of them bamboo toppers on it. They stay cold.

Bamboo doesn’t look comfortable...

I have a king size memory foam mattress we bought from Costco. ad delivered in a box about the size of two cases of beer.

We paid $800 for it. It’s nice, I plan on keeping it for a while. I wish it was a little softer. That’s the problem with buying a mattress off the Internet, you can’t try it first.
