I have a 2000 ranger that I did the 3.0 to 4.0 conversion. Used a 2000 explorer 4.0 as a doner. No longer have it.
My problem is all te sudden last fall the truck would loose all the r134. I tried to replace thinking it was low because the compressor stopped, but it would only run or a day then quit. Got cold so I waited until this spring to get it looked at.
The shop had it for 3 weeks total over 2 different trips. They said there is a leek but could not find it, sent home with the dye and I returned a week later for them to fix. Still could not find the leak, would leak 5 lbs over night. They think it is the evaporator. (over the while time only charged for the dye and the r134 to bring to proper pressure).
So how hard is it to replace the evaporator on a 2000 ranger that was a 3.0? I am willin to do the work, but am better doin the part swap than the diagnosis. Where do you get such a thing? Is that something a parts store could get as opposed to the dealer? Will I have to tear into the dash in the truck? My hanes book really is not much help in this one.
If it could be something else, I would like to know that also.
