I'm looking for the insulation that goes on the cover for the evaporator housing on my '99 Ranger. The cover with insulation wasn't that expensive originally (p/n XL5Z19B666AA), but it's been discontinued. Apologies for not posting a picture, but the insulation is gone on mine so there's not much to show. It was an an aluminum reflector over fiberglass insulation, used to protect the evaporator from exhaust manifold heat. Any suggestions on an easily available material to replace it?

Alternatively - the evaporator insulator is still available for the '01-'11 Ranger. Anybody know what the difference is and whether it can be used on a '99?

I know @Bird76Mojo just wrapped his housing with something... maybe he can chime in and tell you what he used.

Thermo-Tec makes a product that looks about right, but the smallest piece I can get is 8 square feet for about $40. Seems a little excessive...

The stuff I used is still expensive, but it has worked well for me for quite a while now. It's not nearly as thick as the OEM insulation. but it's also not as tempting for mice to chew on. The layers I put on my heat-only plenum when I did my V8 swap is still stuck on the plenum quite well. I'm just adding A/C now so I had to modify another plenum.

It's woven fiberglass sheet, with adhesive and a foil covering..
