The patient is a '99 Ranger 4.0 liter 4-Wheel Drive w/A.T. "King-Cab" and She's hangin' on the Rack awaiting a Donor-organ (Engine) for Transplant...I REALLY need to know what's "Viable" regarding THIS Yr. Model regarding IT's Auto-Transmission, IT's NO-EGR "Federal Emmissions" designation (I'll cross-check PCM P/N while awaiting SOME replies, but the VECI says "Federal"), and whatever ELSE You "Ranger-Nuts" know for being -- Bless Your Hearts! -- what You are to a Ford Ranger on this forum : )

Seriously, I want to get this swap done RIGHT and the Bone-Yards have different storys regarding "Compatability"...can 'yall help me out here quick?

I'm lookin' at four of 'em tomorrow -- if not this afternoon -- and Your considerations provided here would be greatly appreciated, Sincerely, THANKS!

New "Sticky" needed?!!???!!!!

If this gets resolved I'll see about gettin' it posted as a "Sticky" with an HTML link to a chart showing Yr. Model, etc. "Engine Change Compatability"...maybe one for Transmissions will evolve too!

What Yrs. "Cross" for '99 4.0 Fed/A.T./4wd SuperCab?

If this gets resolved I'll see about gettin' it posted as a "Sticky" with an HTML link to a chart showing Yr. Model, etc. "Engine Change Compatability"...maybe one for Transmissions will evolve too!

Here's a mind-bender: The local dealer Parts-man says there's 35 P/N's for ECM JUST for the 4.0 application -- 50 for 3.0!!! -- and that you must have the Calibration Code from a label that's ON THE VEHCILE to possibly know/obtain the correctly calibrated PCM for any particular engine...now THAT is stupid! Put such a critical number to the Engine somewhere on the Vehicle and NO WHERE on the Engine?!?!!!?

Now I'm glad tht all the "Donors" I've checked-out so far are B/O'ed...a wrongly calibrated Engine Controller application can cause incorrect Combustion burn-temps and damage the Engine such as what I have, which BTW the PCM currently installed does NOT match to any of those 35 P/N's, so now I gotta find the right Engine for THIS vehicle AND the correct PCM to replace what's there!

I still need to know exactly what yrs. will "Cross", and the Ford Parts guy was already pretty frazzled for goin' over those 35 part #'s...to no avail : /

99' into the 2000's I would assume.

Thanx, from what I can tell so far it's '99 and 2000, and in My case only "Non-EGR"...I think the Salvage Yards should keep the PCM's WITH any Engine like a Ford product where there's so MANY critical "Calibration Codes" limiting viable application...sure they'll "Run"...for awhile 'till they burn-up for the mis-calibration though!

I found one had (reportedly ; ) '84k. on it WITH the PCM...I told 'em to go cover it 'cause it's raining this weekend and when he returned said "Sorry it musta SOLD this morning" : /

I have four to check-out Monday, but they do NOT have the original PCM's w/'em...sure be NICE to know whut'm lookin' for to make it RIGHT...this time ; )

I wonder if you could just give them the skinny on your set up and have them program the PCM to match ? Might have to go to a tuner shop though.
