Escorts 2nd SAS

I will use everything except bearing from the wj. And the xj rotors will be moved to the rear axle and use Chevy calipers with my own brackets.

what axle are you currently running in the rear?

This is kind of what the bracket will look like

And here is the clamp idea i will use.

I really need to get this steering upgrade done. I am now leaking 1 quart of fluid a week! At $5 a quart for the cheapest I can find is starting to add up. On the bright side, the whole underside is now undercoated.

that's not a "brightside"
wait till you wanna clean it and actually undercoat it...

Beeing sarcastic, its actually really clean underneath. I keep it degreased everytime I wash it.

Yeah, that's another issue I need to address. It's leaked since I put this t-case in this truck.

Need some opinions. TRE or rod ends for steering. I've heard all the good and bad, but this is my DD. I've looked at the offset tre that RuffStuff sells, anyone have an opinion on them? Or should I just use stock wj stuff?

The offset ones are 1ton...iirc.

posted to your facebook but i'll repost.

i vote one ton kit. i did it and love it.
tre's should in theory outlast rod ends (at least in the mud) due to being able to grease them and the boots to help keep most of the debris out. as for sperical rod ends i''m still using them on my trac bar. i used to replace them every couple months but switched to ruff stuff's and now only replace once a year. i could push them longer but every year it spends a couple weeks in the garage going thru everything making sure everything is checked over so I just replace them to avoid any down time/ trail brakes in the spring, summer, fall.

my rig is now driven daily as well.

on another note my truck has unfortunately seen more pavement this year than wheelin but the rod ends are still in near perfect condition (visually) normally you can see they look like they are starting to get a little "dry" or worn by now.

The offset TREs from ruffstuff have the 1 ton tapered stud. You might be able to run a standard 1 ton TRE but I would think with the larger tie rod (1.5" DOM) you would run into clearance issues at the diff cover (especially if it is a thicker aftermarket one) or on the coil spring/sway bar brackets on the axle.

The other issue is that the offset TREs are probably not available at local Autoparts stores so it would be a good idea to order some spares shortly after you set up your steering so that you have them on hand.

The reason I was thinking of the offset tre is for clearances, the stock wj tre are offset too but the tre have a curve in them. Also the offset would give me enough room for the hydro ram.
But yeah, I would order another set just in case.

I wonder if I could get by with just rod ends at the pitman arm and upper part of the knuckle? Or run 1ton there too?
