Escorts 2nd SAS

Dont know bryan. He does have a rear axle from his 87 gt. But it is a 4 lug axle. He does have an 8.8 stang axle with 5lug and disc brakes but i want that one. He is having a hard time parting with it. He said he will trade me the axle for my tires on my truck....ok what am i going to drive then lol....

Has to be brakes from a 94 to 04? gt mustang. I'm just having a hell of a time finding the backing plates for a good price. I think i dont have rear brakes now, having to push the brake pedal harder now then i use to plus have all the other signs pointing to that too...

My 89 never had rear brakes the 9 years i had it untill i did the sas. The rear abs thing stoped working and never took the time to bypass it. When i did the swap i bypassed the module thing and found 6 holes in the line that ran to the rear axle. Lol

An 87 is a 28 spline stock, well all mustangs are 28 spline same as a ranger or is it 27 spline:icon_twisted: I don't know lol

You can use ranger shafts to swap to 5 lug, use the drum too. You need 2 driver side ranger.shafts to swap. If you are still considering....

They are 28, I have counted myself. My D30 is 27 spline, wish I had 30 but im not going to complain about it.

I will say that having rear brakes and when I did go to stop hard, the rear tires would make noise but only with my MT tires I have, stock ones just wont do it.

Took the truck on a long highway drive today. About 30 miles at 70-80mph and except for the tires being out of balance it surprised me at how comfortable the ride was. The only thing I didn't like was how fast the engine was running, 2900 rpms at 70mph in OD. If this saw more highway use than city I would rather have 4.10 with the 35's. Or 37's with 4.56..

Another problem that just developed after I avoided the accident, getting a clunking on the passenger side. I can hear it and feel it on the floor and steering wheel. It happens when I hit a small bump or hole on that side or when I turn the wheel from lock to lock. I thought the bigger bolts for the upper arms would get rid of it. :icon_confused: Every bolt is tight, I have loosened and re tightened all the bolts that have to do with the suspention... The only thing I haven't checked was the track bar, but if that was loose to make that much noise, wouldn't I be seeing some death wobble??? :dunno:

Anyone have suggestions? Could it be ball joint? Bearings? All the tierods are tight with no play...

I would check your ball joints and axle shaft u-joints. I would have somebody turn the wheel while you are under it looking and listening to it with the weight of the truck on that axle.

I thought my trackbar was nice and tight until I took the weight off the truck and found that it wasnt so I would check it both ways.

Everything is new when i first did the swap. New ball joints. New axle joints. The only thing not new is the lower arm bolts and the whole housing. I even put new knuckles on it...
Anyway today if i get time i will check everything, i mean everything.

yep the ends make a little noise from the rod ends but that is not what i am hearing or feeling. but i can disconnect it and see if makes a difference.

Took it for a drive with the swaybar disconnected on both sides, still has the clunking sounds. I am going to pull the shock on that side and see if it goes away. I have had the shock bolts come loose on me before...

Figured it out. For some reason, two of the six bolts that hold the passenger side link bracket onto the frame were loose. So I took the impact to them and went for a drive again. Problem fixed. I think I will have the brackets welded to the frame for extra strength. I won't do it myself with a stick welder. I will have my budy do it with his Miller220 mig. Plus he is a better welder than I am.

Welding stuff like that is not a bad idea anyways..

Did you use a lock tight on your bolts???

Yep. Locktite and nylon locking nuts.
