Escorts 2nd SAS

My new wheel bearing came in yesterday. This was a much needed fix. The old one was shot. I could spin it freely with no resistance.

This should fix my problems with the front wanting to wander and shake.

Where did you end up getting yours from? I kept my other as a spare just in case but it too spins freely.

I love how quick and easy it is to change the bearings on these axles.

Got it from a company in Detroit called Dearborn Axle. Got a good deal on it. A timken brand for $45 plus shipping. I kept both of the old bearings for spares. One has a bolt in it in case I break an axle shaft.

Wait, thats the bearing?
all this time i assumed it was a hub with a separate bearing inside.
So i just go buy the bearing for my axle and they will give me the whole assembly with wheel studs and all?

It's a unit bearing, has the hub and bearing all in one unit...

Ohh, I didnt knew that.
All this time i thought it was like the regular bearings.

Sorry to disapoint you.:D

Thing with these bearings are, they arent serviceable. But when it comes to changing them, takes no time at all.

Very true. Only takes a few minutes to change it.
The new bearing is like driving a new truck. There is no more vibrations in the steering wheel and drives so smooth now. Should of bought it months ago.

Why'd the old one fail? The 35's or was it just old?

I've done my bearings so many times it only takes me about 25 min for a new seal, two new roller bearings, packing the bearings and setting the preload.

Now how long does it last though

The driver side one I replaced last year and it is still good. Guess it all depends on how much water and mud you get in there.

The old one was very old. It was in bad shape when I got it off eBay for $5. I put it on just before I made the trip to bundy hill labor day weekend. The one before that was shot also a used one. I just wish they weren't so damn expensive.

Driving home from work today I kept hearing something rattling. Lower shock bolt on the rear axle was broken. Replaced the bolt but I noticed the Rancho shock is getting bad. Moves way too easy. How can this be? They aren't that old.

On my old Rancho Rs5000's, the bushing only last about one year and then they shriveled up like a raisin and cracked and rattled :bawling:

Yeah, those weren't looking to good either.
