Im replacing the front rotors on my 2008 Ford Escape 4wd and was curious as to whether the rotors just seat on the hub and are held in place my clips over the studs or if the rotor should be pounded into place making a press fit over the hub.

2008, and it needs rotors already? I just put on the first set of new rotors on my 99 Ranger this summer. I bought it new in July 99. Why does yours need rotors? Did you let the pads run out and gouged them really bad? Did you have the rotors turned at all? If you are going to do maintenance on your Ford you need to get a manual. I bought one new on Ebay for $25.00. Look there or look for a good used one.
The rotors only go on one way and just look at how you pulled off the old one or look at the other side before you do it. You can't mess that up, Bro!!! Pads are bit tricky if you never done it before since some people put the clips on backwards.

The washer looking, locking fasteners are not critical; they are just there to hold the disc on during its travels down the assembly line. If you want to put them back on you can, but don't have to.

The disc itself should just slide over the hub, but I haven't worked on an Escape to know for certain.

If your sliding the rotor over the studs (as oposed to having studs in them like some rangers) then there is no need to press it on rotors will have enough clearance to slide easily, and when you put hte wheel on and tighten the lugnuts it will pull hte rotor into place nicely.

Pound it off. Slide the new one on. Easy.

Clip the washers with dykes, tap the rotor hub if they are rusted on, and then slide the new one on and hold it in place with a lug nut if you need to.

I just did mine on my 2006 Escape. A big hammer and a 2X4 will fix your problem. They get rusted on there.

the title to this thread is misleading. I was under the impression that i could escape replacing the front rotors on my truck with some clever trick to reuse wornout rotors.

HAHAHA LOL. Yup you sure can, and the big three are gonna offer only muscle cars and truck from now on with a 25k$ rebate from the manufacterer.

Well, I guess you could always weld new material onto the old surfaces.
