Escape 2000 to 2008 ABS Tone Ring Failure

I drove my moms to work today and the bearings seem to be humming again...i wonder what kind of warranty that shop she took it to has.

Try rotating the tires. Mine hums if I don't rotate them often.

Well, it gets worse when i turn left, and goes away when i turn right, so that sure sounds like a bad right bearing wouldnt you say?

Escapes are horrible for chopping tires. I'm two weeks overdue to rotate my wife's tires and I'm already jumpy about the tires.

Sounds like it.

Ugh. I would agree. It is such a piss poor design. It gets put under a lot of pressure twice to complete the job.

All three (and the fourth one will be too) have been Timken bearings, so I'm not using crap. However, all three have said "SKF Spain" on them.

EDIT: For the record - I have tons of experience with SKF at work, and never broke one. That's all we use.

These have worn pretty dang even, but they do get choppy on the inside. I have to rotate them every 5,000 like clockwork though. They have about 40,000 on them, and I am going to need to get new tires before winter.

I was talking to my mechanic friend tonight, his wife has an escape and hes had to put 3 per side in it so far and hes only owned it a year, they've all been warrantied but hes still doing the labor obviously. He was saying hes thinking of going with the hub/bearing kit next time. Have you guys looked into that?

I have seen it on Rock Auto. You still have to press the hub in the bearing. That's why I went the cheaper route. I couldn't see how I would gain anything because the kit will have the same bearing in it.

I'm definitely open to it though if it works out for your buddy.

Just a side note.... both mine and my Brothers only went bad on the drivers side. Mine (06) has over 120K on it now with the original bearing on the passenger side. My Brothers 05 has about 95K IIRC.

Yes it is a very common problem, I recently made a video of the procedure so all can follow along and do it themselves no special tools or heat required. Here it is let me know what you think.

Roughly how long did it take to replace the sensor ring? Is there anything different I would need to know to do this on a Mercury Mariner?

Mariner is a rebadged Escape, exactly the same vehicle except badges and trimwork.

Time is going to be a matter of tools, equipement, and skill. With a lift I can do one in about 20 minutes. On the ground it takes half an hour. If I don't have power tools that easily jumps above an hour.
