I have a Fuel Injected 91 Ford Ranger 4x4 with 315,000 kms. My problem is this. While the truck is idling it will run good for a bit the suddenly the RPMS will drop and it will really struggle. This happens when the vehicle is hot or cold and everytime I stop it happens the same. Its to the point Ive had to "2 feet it" with the gas and brake at the stop lights. The other morning it did the same and this time actually stalled. I had to REALLY rev the engine to keep it running afterwards. So far now its back to its usual idling problems.

Thanks for any help

1st thing would be to see what codes are generated??. see Tech Library for getting codes.

reason being...is it could be many things....but start with simple things, if hasn't had a tune up for some time, now would be good.

has the fuel filter and air filter been changed?? Also check the fuel pressure. Low pressure might indicate a plugged filter or a bad pump.

check all wire and battery connections.... could be just a bad connection somewhere...bad ground wire can do this,

could be a bad Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR)....pull the little vacuum line off the FPR....IF fuel dribbles out...its pretty much done. Still could be bad, but there should NOT be fuel or dampness there.
