engine was running and shut off dont hear fuel pumps come on

i dont hear the fuel pum come on when i turn the ignition on, is there a fuse or relay somewhere that could have gone bad
 
I dont think you have a power distribution box under the hood in an 87? There is still a fuel pump relay somewhere on a fender though, maybe drivers side? If that doesnt work check the wiring right before the inline pump on the frame. There is a small plastic cylinder that splits the power for the inline pump and the wire going to the pump in the tank. This piece caused me trouble in my 88 until I cut it out and spliced the wires together.
 
on the passenger side inner fender there is a relay for the fuel pumps, it may be hidden under a plastic panel next to the airbox. The relay has a green base. Trace the wires out of the relay and there will be a wire with a fusible link in it that comes from the hot side of the starter relay.
 
If it's got it? First place I would check is the fuel safety cut off switch. If it's got one? There will be a 'note' attached to one of the stickers under the hood mentioning it. It could have tripped, or gone bad.

on my 88 bII the eec relay (black) and fuel pump relay (green) are on the passenger fender by the air box. The fuel inertia swith is on the passenger side by the kick panel under the carpet. Mine did the same thing and it turned out the red black wire that comes out of the eec relay rubbed against the motor mount and blew the relays. check those spots first then traqck down your wiring.
 
there is a single wire connector that runs to the ground on the batt, thats where the problem lies.
 
You may have got the problem resolved by now, but one day after stopping at a gas station during hunting season, I got back in my truck and went to turn the key, I didn't hear my fuel pump cut on either, I went ahead and tried starting her, she didn't budge. We had to wheel her to the side and call dad. After some tinkering and replacing wires and a fuel pump/filter. We found out it was my fuel pump inertia switch, just watch out for that one, it will get you everytime.
