need help i replaced the oil pump and oil pan gasket and now i have a tick. the truck sat for at least 2 years and the oil was blacker than black. im thinking that when i changed the oil that maybe something broke loose and either stuck the valve open or block the oil for the lifter. when i first started it up it ran fine quiet as usual. after a few minutes the tick started up and i noticed that the pcv valve was rattling i pulled it out and noticed that there is a LOT!! of vacuum going to test it tomorrow just need to know how much vacuum there is supposed to be i have a vacuum gauge. it is on a 81 ford f150 with the 302 carb.

Not sure what the 2.9 is like for clicks, but my 2.3 developed on recently...they usually quieten down after a bit...putting oil treatment in doesn't hurt, especially if it sat for two years...mine sat for 5 years, but the head was rebuilt and I oiled the bottom end by hand cranking and dumping oil in the cylinders...

As far as vacuum...the guage might work but not sure how accurate it would be...I bought a vacuum/fuel pressure gauge for about $10 from Princess Auto and it gives pretty accurate readings...but I'd suspect the vacuum isn't a big problem...it may be a good thing, actually...

Your profile says 83 in 83 it had the 2.8 unless it has been modded with a 2.9. at the end you say 81 F150 with a 302. Anyway Just put a new PCV they are cheap. As far as vacuum pressure 17hg and over is good for the idle as long as the needle is steady and you want 20hg and steady anywhere above idle.
