so i have a 99 ranger prerunner 302 and not much expierience with 4x4. got the 302 from a 79 fairmount. dual barrel carb.
my trany in my prerunner had a crack in the bellhousing so all the fluid leaked out causing my flywheel and crankshaft to go out. also there is a knocking in the engine. safe to say the engine and tranny are pretty worn out. this prerunner is just 2wd. i found a 84 ranger not far for sale where the owner did a simmilar task.put a 70's 5.0 in an adorable lil ranger. in comparison the engines and trannys are the same. the body on his is pretty much rusted over. the engine however is in better condition than mine when i got it. his is also 4x4.
question: to put 4x4 into my prerunner i have to swap the fwd axle as well as the transfer case. would the front axle from an 84 ranger fit in a 99 ranger? or should i just ditch the transfer case and hook in the driveshaft directly to the tranny keeping it 2wd?
