You did not state what size motor you have now. If you have a 3.0, another 3.0 will fit. If you swapped a 4.0 motor in a Ranger with a 3.0, the transmission for the 4.0 won't work for a 3.0 motor in other words. You can use the search function and do a search on engine swaps and see what comes up. Lot of info there.

2001 Rangers had 3 engine options, 2.3l Duratec, 3.0l Vulcan, and 4.0l SOHC, each has a unique transmission bolt pattern, so transmissions are not interchangable
