I have a 94 Ranger/3.0/A4LD.Is it possible to take a newer 2k &up engine,tranny combo and switch ecu's as well? This beast has been good but starting to use oil .

Well, it depends on your definition of "Simple". In addition to that you have:

1. Rewiring everything (94 is OBD 1, 95+ is OBD 2)
2. Figure out how you're going to wire up a speed sensor on the transmission that lacks a port for one

If all it's doing is using Oil you can swap in the engine and use your existing electronics + Timing Cover. When you start talking transmission it complicates things a whole bunch.
