Hello all, i have a question regarding my 2.3l 4 cylinder 1994 ranger. Within in the next year id like to swap up for a 3.0 or 4.0 v6, my current transmission is an automatic 4 speed. So my question is, if i swap up to a 3.0 or preferably a 4.0, will i also need to spring for a different tranny?

Welcome to TRS Wk :)

You would need the engine of course, and the transmission for that engine, AND the engine/transmission wiring harness and the computer that runs that engine and trans, if automatic.

In my opinion it would not be a good swap because you can go out and buy a Ranger with stock 3.0l or 4.0l.
Better to just rebuild or build up the 2.3l engine if you want more power.

OR

Go with a V8 swap, still need engine/trans, wiring and computer so same work as 3.0l/4.0l swap but you get more power and you have a "better" Ranger, not a 2.3l Ranger with a 3.0l/4.0l

Because it is a Ranger and a Ranger came with 3.0l and 4.0l doesn't make the swap any easier, V8 or V6 into a 2.3l Ranger would be the same amount of work
