Engine Swap Question

I have a 1988 Ford Ranger XLT ext cab truck that has the 2.3 engine, 5spd mazda trans, and is 2wd however the transmission is hung in 4th gear and wont come out. According to advance and auto zone, it will cost $1000 for a rebuild kit since the transmission has synchronizers in it. I can't find a replacement trans ANYWHERE.Therefore it leaves me no choice but to swap the engine out and put a bigger engine in it and swap trans together. Can anyone tell my, if I swapped my 2300 efi engine out to a 2900 or a 3000 engine, could I use the same wire harness in the truck and just swap the computers.
