Is there any way to tell if the engine or tranny for that matter, is original to the vehicle? And, is there a way to tell if the odometer has been rolled?

Since our trucks have mechanical odometers, its easy to change them out. On other cars with electronic odo's, the mileage is stored in multiple places, like the cluster, PCM, and BCM, it'll take some work to dig it out if the cluster is changed, but it can be done. Some clusters have removable mileage chips, while others just take the info from other modules and display it without storing it themselves. Our Rangers dont have any of that unfortunately.

I havent seem the serial numbers on the engine and trans also containing the last of the VIN numbers, on my vehicle and several junkyard vehicles. When they are built, they pick the parts off in the order they come to the assembly line, and usually the serial numbers are recorded on the Build Sheet. Your dealer should be able to print you a full build sheet with all the info on your truck. The generic online VIN decoders wont tell you this.
