I have a very annoying problem with my 86 2.9 V6 Ranger. The problem generally occurs about a minute after I turn the engine on, where the engine will stutter very badly and loose all power for about 30 seconds then after blowing some bad smoke will come right again and drive perfectly fine until I turn the truck off again. It doesn't matter if the truck is hot or cold and will do it every time without fail when it is turned on.
Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated as It has me hooped as what the problem could possible be.

Thanks

Hate to sound blahsay....but it can be many things.

the best place to start is to have the codes read.
next get fuel pressure readings.

go from there and that should shed some light on what is happening

read my recent thread named gas smell in oil filler...i had the same problem and it ended up being a disconnected wire.

Thanks for the advice.

I checked the codes today and it gave me the CM codes of 51 and 54. After looking up both the codes and finding out that they have to do with the ECT sensor and the ACT sensor.

Does anybody know if the described problem sounds like it could be associated with these sensors and if so do I need to replace these guys???

Thanks.
