Engine shutting off

When I am driving down the road, the engine will suddenly shut off without any warning or noises. It doesn't matter if I'm going 35 mph or 60 mph on the highway. After it shuts off, it will restart after sitting for a few minutes. Today in 15-mile ride it shut off five times. I have replaced the fuel filter and checked the fuel-pump shutoff switch. It is a V6 1994 Ford Ranger pickup with a 4.0 engine. I'm scared to drive it for fear of an accident but need it for work. Help!

does it studder at all before dying? or does it just simply cut out like you pulled the key out?

that might help narrow it down to wether its an electrical issue, or 'engine management' (loosing fuel pressure, timing, spark). if its electrical, its probably some loose harness, or wire someplace thats intermittenly breaking a connection.

ive had a 94, and own a 93 right now, and a very long story short i ended up pulling the motor on the 93 because of mis-diagnosing wiring issues. something happened to the bundle going to the engine block where nearly every wire was corroded and nearly broken.

I had a similar problem when my '98 was only a few months old. The dealer replaced the fuel pump under warranty and that solved the problem.
